THE CURTAIN CALL

“… and the very folds of the curtains contained secrets and sighs”
– Anaïs Nin

It was in the 1974 movie The Great Gatsby that I first saw long, white, sheer curtains, gently flapping between the pillars around the pool in which Robert Redford was soaking. Throughout the course of the movie, my attention was drawn to scenes in which a gentle breeze moved lightweight curtains, creating a whimsical ambiance and suggesting a carefree and romantic life…

Window coverings have changed dramatically over the centuries – from the heavy Victorian drapes, swags and tails to Roman blinds and modern American shutters – and are bound to change many times still in the future. But nothing can replace thin linen voile curtains moving slowly in the wind, draping carelessly on the floor.

Linen voile, unlike any other voile, has a wonderful weight and softness to it that makes it fall and linger at the same time. Combined with lace, it makes for an unbearably romantic feel. These curtains immediately soften any look and create a calm ambience.

I fell in love with linen voile and lace curtains at an exhibition in Paris in 2010 and promptly took myself off to India to find the craftsmen and -women who make these beautiful items. Ever since, I have been designing and importing them every year.

So, if you are looking for something decadent yet understated, browse through our current collection, exclusive to Masquerade. Luxurious, simple, sophisticated and oh so romantic – all at the same time!
