“I am Marti Foster, the owner of Masquerade, a much-loved shop, in beautiful Franschhoek, in the heart of South Africa’s Cape Winelands.
Born on a wing and a prayer in 2000, Masquerade has evolved into, and I say with sincere humbleness, an iconic place to visit when you are in the area.”
Driven by her innate avoidance of the clichéd, coupled with her sense of style and abundance of creativity, Marti has created a unique shopping experience:-
timeless romance and tongue-in-cheek humour, composed in a contemporary way with a subtle French undertone.
Décor, gifts and all things beautiful, beautiful, but never too serious.
The continual search for the rare, the beautiful and the unexpected inspires Marti to travel both far and near, seeking new products and suppliers
to ensure a constantly evolving Masquerade offering.
In a world of mass production and compromised personality, Masquerade has maintained its independence and unwavering identity.
The majority of our products are designed by, specially produced for, or imported by us and can’t be found in other retail outlets.
We love what we offer, we hope you will too.
Masquerade started as a small corner shop, in 2000, at the height of Cath Kidston’s ‘Shabby-Chic’ phase, bursting at the seams with vintage items
sourced from local auctions. The ‘auction-hopping’ continued and later expanded to Europe and South America, focusing on French style furniture, linen and décor items.
Passionate about new product innovation (a skill acquired during her time as Food Selector at Woolworths), Marti gets high on conceptualising and sourcing things she loves and on ultimately seeing how her followers respond. She relies totally on instinct and will only offer what she believes in… often ahead of a trend, and never part of the pack.
Marti holds a B Home Economics degree in Food and Clothing

Jo has been involved in Masquerade’s development for years, starting with graphic design and now contributing to ideas, concepts and providing the team with positive energy. With an eye for detail and love for language, very few ‘new moves’ get made without Jo’s thumbs up.
