A TIME FOR GIVING

Towards the end of the year, I often hear, “Can you believe it is Christmas again?” It makes me smile because we do have 12 months’ notice every year for this day…
Anyhow, I agree with that, for most of us, the festive season comes too soon and every year it seems to be more chaotic and frenetic.  So many things to decide upon and to plan: the Christmas dinner menu, table and house decorations, the guest list, etc.  Often, an added source of stress (which really should be a pleasure) is the gifting.  What do I get for each family member or friend and, even more difficult, for that unexpected guest or person I don’t really know all that well?

Although a lot of people set out claiming a “no gifting” policy,  the build-up to Christmas often comes with pressure to gift “just something small”.

Another popular approach is the “Secret Santa” concept according to which each person buys only one gift (within a prescribed budget).  Come Christmas, each person draws a gift from a hat.  This tradition of course demands that all gifts be unisex and fit for a wide variety of ages.
